This large collection of essays, drawn from and inspired by a series of conferences held by the London School of Economics and Political Science and the Deutsch Bank Alfred Herrhausen Society, examines issues of urban development and sustainability surrounding three of the world's largest cities, Mumbai, Sao Paulo and Istanbul. Each city is examined by seven authors concerned with a variety of topics and from differing political perspectives. The volume also includes articles on comparative statistical data regarding these and other world cities as well as thematic papers on globalization, urban infrastructure, changing demographics and poverty.
