Ars Electronica 2022 - Festival for Art, Technology & Society: Welcome to Planet B. A Different Life is Possible! But How?

Weder die naiven Eskapismen in virtuelle Welten, noch die technologische Ultra-topie einer Weltraumbesiedelung werden uns davor bewahren, uns den großen unangenehmen Fragen zu stellen. Mit dem diesjährigen Motto Welcome to Planet B lädt die Ars Electronica zu einem spannenden Gedankenexperiment ein: Was, wenn wir die großen Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts schon bewältigt hätten? Wie würden wir dann (zusammen-)leben? Und vor allem: Wie hätte unser Weg dorthin ausgesehen? Wir werden jedes bisschen Technologie benötigen, doch das größte Innovationsprojekt werden wir selbst sein, unsere Fähigkeit, als globale Gemeinschaft der Herausforderung zu begegnen - eine Neuerfindung der Menschlichkeit!Der Planet B ist nicht die zweite Chance auf einen anderen Ort, an dem wir so weitermachen können wie bisher, er ist die Chiffre für das unabdingbar notwendige, neue und in vielen Formen ganz andere Leben und Handeln auf diesem einzigen Planeten, den es für uns gibt.Neither naive escapism into virtual worlds, nor the technological ultra-topia of space colonization will save us from facing the big, uncomfortable questions.With this year"s theme Welcome to Planet B, Ars Electronica is an invitation to take part in an exciting thought experiment: What if we had already mastered the great challenges of the 21st century? And most importantly: What would our path there have looked like?We will need every bit of technology, but the biggest innovation project has to be ourselves, our ability to rise to the challenge as a global community - a reinvention of humanity!Planet B is not the second chance for another place where we can continue as before, it is the cipher for the indispensable, new and in many forms completely different life and action on this only planet that exists for us.
