Greenthorne, Greenthorne

Greenthorne is a literary/historical fiction novel. Its blurb: While their bones rot in Greenthorne's graveyard, the ghosts of Olivers past are but a few of the adversaries he encounters amid the shambles of his cheerless and troubled routine. Indeed, in Oliver's world the dearly departed are just as monstrously behaved as the living! Thankfully, Greenthorne not only has spooks and monsters, but angels too - otherworldly creatures that Oliver encounters when paying a visit to the town's old, long-forgotten cinema. The remarkable women that he discovers dwelling nearby are not quite like the starlets showcased in the movies, and yet they instil in him the same sense of joy and wonder that the cinema had once afforded him. Stumbling upon these women and revisiting the old picture house sets off a most unexpected chain of events, one that may free Oliver from the ghosts of his past and woes of the present. And what about the idiosyncratic Uncle Sheldon, Oliver's only living relative? Is he friend or foe? With an unconventional take on the interwar period, Greenthorne delivers colourful, indelible characters and quirky scenarios as it advances toward an unanticipated and rousing finale.
